The history of the Seminar.

The decision on organizing the Seminar as a traditional activity of the Scientific Council of the Russian Academy of Sciences on the problems of Radiation Solid State Physics (RSSP SC RAS) was taken in 1994 by the administrations of the RSSP SC RAS, the IMP UB of RAS (the leading institute of RSSP SC RAS) and the RFNC-VNIITF. There were two serious reasons for that:

After disintegration of Soviet Union, the Bakuriani School on Radiation Solid State Physics organized by Acad. E.L. Andronikashvili and Prof. I.A. Naskidashvili in the 60-ies of the 20th century had ceased existence after more than 20 years of successful functioning. It was necessary to maintain the informal creative traditions of the Bakuriani School highly valued by the radiation physicists community of the USSR.

At this particular time, the problem of defense industry conversion in Russia, including reorientation of efforts of mass destruction weapons development engineers and their incorporation in the world scientific community, was intensively discussed. The subjects planned to be discussed at the Seminar, related to the problems of formation and evolution of radiation-induced defects, point defects interaction, radiation-induced structural-phase transformations, etc., appeared to be close to scientists of high professional qualification of a number of defense institutions of the Urals, offering them a chance of getting integrated in the civilian radiation physicists community efficiently enough.

The first Seminar took place in February, 1995. The seminar is held every 2 years. Today, the Seminar is a platform for specialists in the field of radiation physics and radiation materials science from around the world that provides them the opportunity to present the results of their research, discuss new ideas with colleagues personally and find partners for further research. Young scientists within the framework of the Seminar are given an opportunity to demonstrate their work and communicate with leading researchers in their field.

The previous, the Fourteenth Urals Seminar was held from April 25 to 29, 2022. 85 people from Russia, the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Republic of Belarus took part in the Seminar. 85 people from Russia, the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Republic of Belarus took part in the Seminar. 61 reports were presented, including 3 plenary, 32 oral and 11 poster. 21 people took part in the School of the Young Speaker, who presented 18 oral and 5 poster presentations. 7 young researchers were awarded certificates and a valued prize.
